Auckland Renovations

Turning mediocre into marvelous, Sika Homes are the Auckland renovation specialists

If you’re wanting to renovate your home, there’s two ways to do it. The wrong way, or using Sika Homes. If you’re doing a re-clad, a remodel, adding an extension or restoring a beautiful old character home to its former glory, Sika has been there and done that.

Years of experience with Auckland renovations

Sika Homes have been renovating Auckland homes for ten years, and before that we’ve had years of experience in the industry in NZ and overseas. What this means for you is that you don’t just get the job done, but you get the benefit of experience from a trusted and skilled team of builders.

Remodels and renovations can get expensive, fast. Bathrooms and kitchens in particular can balloon very quickly if water damage if discovered. While we can’t guarantee everything in life, we do know a number of strategies that help reduce the cost of the renovation. We also have many ideas that we can contribute that you may not have thought of. This makes us fantastic in the planning stages, offering valuable advice and knowledge.

We also can decipher all those technical architectural terms and present them to you in plain, understandable English. We give you insight and a much better depth of understanding in the renovation process.

Reclads for leaky homes

We also are highly experienced at repairing and re-cladding leaky homes. This can be a challenging and stressful process, so we work hard to get it done right. If you have a water damaged home, we can assess it, make recommendations on exactly what is needed to restore it to full weathertightness, and then carry out the repairs to a high standard. These are complex, so contact us to discuss your options.

Character home modernization

Part of Auckland’s housing stock is character homes, particularly in the older suburbs. If you’re wanting to renovate a gorgeous older home, then you’ll probably want to achieve a few things:

  • Warmer, drier, and fully insulated
  • Maintain the look and feel of the character of the home
  • Add functionality and smart home elements
  • Add value for resale

We have created many modern beautiful homes from character buildings. They require a delicate touch, with a respect and understanding of elements that can be retained, while still wanting the benefits of modern living. Adding full insulation, modern window treatments that still suit the home’s look, and updating plumbing and electrics to today’s needs. Smart homes with all the benefits of technology, the cost savings of energy efficient homes and the beauty and grace of the past.

Renovations - FAQ

The cost of an extension will vary hugely depending on what you want. A ground floor extension adding on one bedroom will cost between $60,000 and upwards of $100,000. Per square metre, a smaller renovation will cost more, because there are some fixed costs, such as building permits, that will stay the same regardless of size.

Some additions are worth the spend. For instance, turning a three bedroom home into a four bedroom home will potentially result in a doubling of your money come sale time.

Kitchens can be tricky renovations. Cabinetry, plumbing and electrical all in one space, and it’s also the hub of the home. While they can be done for about $10,000, for a high-quality renovation you should expect to pay more.

It depends on what you want, and the only limit is your imagination and budget. From luxury entertainers’ kitchens with plenty of storage and elaborate spaces through to simple renovations that create a clean functional area, we have done it all. There’s a lot to consider when doing up a kitchen, with flow through other areas, lighting, water tightness and storage all vital components.

Auckland renovation costs will vary depending on what you’re doing, what type of home you have, and what you want to achieve.

A kitchen renovation can cost anywhere between a budget $10,000 to $20,000, through to a high-end designer kitchen which can cost in excess of $80,000. Bathrooms can start from a simple no-frills $10,000 makeover, but over $50,000 for a luxury upgrade.

A general cosmetic upgrade differs in price – a totally DIY option is a lot cheaper than getting us in to do it. However, DIY also means a lot of stress and time, which is harder to account for. For a rough guide, per m2, $1800 is cheap, $2250 is middle range, and over $3000 per m2 is a high-end renovation.
